On some higher Astral Plane, a figure clad in white watched what looked like a crystal ball. It wasn’t though, nothing had any real shape or form in this dimension, except if you willed it. In fact, the figure itself was the personification of a universal idea.
Originally the figure was just a generic 'Observer'. Then for a while it was a male. But I finally decided as The Doctor was Time's Champion in the new adventures/big finish to make it Time. The line about the personification of a universal idea was based on how Death described herself in the audio play 'Master.'
It observed as The Doctor set the co-ordinates to Fellspoon.
Taking her to see those moving mountains after all. The figure thought, as it smiled. It then waved a hand, releasing the TARDIS from its control.
I thought that The Doctor would do something like that if he and Donna were somehow reunited.
“Very clever.” A hissing voice sneered.
The figure turned to see a familiar figure clad in black. Its only facial features was its mouth, filled with sharp, jagged teeth. Other then that, nothing.
“But do you REALLY think you can undo my work?” The dark figure rasped.
Oops- plot hole. Later on The Trickster says Time couldn't prove it was him, whereas here he admits it. D'oh.
. “After all you are not the White Guardian. He left this universe to rot after witnessing the devastation of the Time War.”
Inspired by a line from The 2005 Doctor Who Annual, where RTD mentions how other races reacted to the war. He did say the Eternals abandoned this universe. As The White Guardian was meant to represent order, something like that which disturbed the order so greatly probaly would make him give up.
“So did your master, Trickster.” The figure replied coolly.
More of my personal fanon. See, to me while The Trickster is a creature similar to the black guardian, the fact he had no idea who The Doctor was until he removed Sarah Jane from the timeline tells me that they're two different entities.
“But that doesn’t stop us from doing our work. And rest assured, I will do all in my power to undo the havoc you wreaked.”
“You cannot prove that.” The Trickster sneered.
“Do you really expect me to believe a Dalek could have altered the timeline without help? Or that it broke the time lock on its own? You‘re nowhere near as subtle as you think you are.”
Again me working in my annoyance at Journey's End into my writing. Don't you just love fanfiction?
The Trickster laughed at that. “Even if you do stop me, you don’t know what effect it will have.”
“True,” The observer replied, “But I’m sure it’s nothing The Doctor won’t be able to handle.”
“Ah yes, your precious champion.” The Trickster scoffed. “But tell me Time, why do you champion someone who has caused so much destruction? Brought so much ruin to people’s lives?”
“Better that, then let monsters like you win.” Time replied.
“But I will win either way.” The Trickster sneered. “Either The Doctor will fail and perish, or a new future will be created, which will bring new chaos.”
“Or new order.” Time replied. “After all, you don’t actually know what will happen, do you?”
The two figures stared at one another, neither willing to back down. Eventually The Trickster turned and began to walk away.
“I have no time for these games.” He bellowed. “There’s always more work to be done.”
He then vanished from view. Another illusion, but Time was glad to see him gone for the minute.
“Come on Doctor.” Time muttered, “Do what you know is right.”
The Doctor had taken Donna and Martha to the Eye of Orion.
Where he took them in another sense... sorry, couldn't resist.
Perhaps the most tranquil place in the universe. After their many scrapes and adventures, they were due a holiday. Oh, all the things they did. Met Emily Dickinson,
I admit I do have something of a worrying interest/crush on Emily Dickinson since A-level english, which is why I mentioned her. Also it's part of the reason why They Keep killing Suzie is one of my favourite episodes of Torchwood.
battled alongside Boudica,
I figured Donna would like Boudica- red-heads of the world unite! On another note, how crap WAS that episode of Bonekickers about her?
traveled to the purple moons of WarMyst and flown on the back of the flying dolphins of Umon.
My secret for inventing alien world names: take two random words from two random book titles, or just slam random letters together.
They even took Wilf for a quick spin. It was worth it just to see his face light up like a child on Christmas morning.
Because darn it, Wilf deserved at least one trip.
The Doctor was in the TARDIS, finishing touches on a machine he was working on. He’d been putting this off for as long as he could, choosing to face monsters, demons, Sontarans, The Master and worst of all, mothers, rather then do this.
Because I would figure that if he knew they were coming, The Doctor would try to deal with as many of those in advance.
But he knew it had to happen sooner or later. And he finally found a way he could deal with the situation, permanently. It was a problem best dealt with on his own. And, should the worst come to the worst, and he didn’t make it back, The TARDIS would return to Martha and Donna, then initiate Emergency Program 1, taking them home.
Not that it would come to that. He hoped.
He was about to take off, when the door swung open.
“Going somewhere?” Donna asked.
“Oh, no.” The Doctor said, trying to remain cool.
“You’re a terrible liar.” Donna remarked.
“It’s important.” The Doctor said, looking and sounding as serious as he could. “Dangerous. I can’t risk anything happening to you or Martha.”
“What about you?” Donna asked.
“Oh, I’ll be alright.” He lied. “You and Martha just go have fun, and I’ll be back.”
“What’s that thing?” Donna asked, pointing at the device.
“Oh, little science project.” He remarked.
“Doctor,” Donna said. “If you need someone to help you…”
”What’s taking so long?” Martha asked as she entered, “I thought you just went in to get a book.”
”The Doctor’s trying to leave without us.” Donna replied.
“It’s not like that!” He said. Here they went again, the two of them ganging up on them.
HIM. Ganging up on HIM. Perhaps my worst trait- putting down a 'real' word different to the one I mean, so that spell-check doesn't pick up on it.
Give him an army of Cybermen any day, at least he knew how to handle them.
Because one thing I loved about the brief Donna/Martha/Doctor dynamic was Martha and him ganging up to tease him.
He reluctantly agreed to bring them along. He supposed Martha could help with the people in Hooverville. And Donna, well, lets just say having a backup shooter was always a good idea.
“Dalek Sek entering final stage of Evolution!” Dalek Thay rasped.
Again I was tempted originally to write a bit more based on Daleks in Manhattan, but figured as this was the primary concern just to skip ahead to this.
The Doctor knew this was his chance. He produced his device.
“Mind telling me what that is exactly?” Donna asked.
“You’ll see.”
He suddenly leapt from concealment.
“Oi, Daleks!” He yelled.“It is The Doctor!”
Dalek Caan yelled. “Exterminate! Exterminate! Ex-”The Doctor pressed the trigger, and a beam engulfed the four Daleks. They were frozen on the spot, lasers pointed. There was even some energy charging up in Dalek Caan’s gun.
“What the hell was that?” Donna asked.
“Haven’t thought of the name.” The Doctor replied. “Time Bubble? Freeze ray?
I'd been watching Doctor Horrible earlier that day, which is why I put Freeze ray as one of the suggested names. If you've not seen it yet, do so, it is awesome.
Pause button? Anyway, they’ll be stuck like that for AGES. Which means they won’t be able to do an emergency temporal shift.”
Before Donna could ask, The Doctor rummaged in his pockets and produced a small, blinking device.
“Is that-” She asked.
“Yes.” The Doctor said. “As long as one Dalek lives, they can do untold damage. Believe me Donna, I’ve given them chance after chance and they never change. You lead the prisoners out of here, I’ll deal with this. But don’t worry, I’ll be back.”
”You bloody better come back.” She replied. “I’ve not saved you from the ice pits of Lynxara just for you to blow yourself up.”
Lynxara is just a default name for an alien world/location that popped into my head one time. Is there a writer called Lynxara? I dunno. Anyway, it's been referenced in all of my Who fics thus far, but it doesn't really mean anything.
She then ran, shooing the prisoners along. The pig slaves too ran, glad to be free of their tyrannical masters. The first thing The Doctor did was destroy any bit of technology that would be dangerous. Which the Daleks, funnily enough, had a lot of. He then rigged several of the devices in key parts of the lab, to ensure when they were detonated the lab would be totally buried. Just to make sure, he placed a detonator right on Dalek Caan’s casing.
“Goodbye.” He said. “It hasn’t been pleasant.”
A nod to the Seventh Doctor there. Because I think, like that incarnation, Ten is willing to do sometimes terrible things for the greater good, including wiping out the daleks. Again, do like the daleks, but this is it for them in this story.
He then turned and left the lab. Once he was sure he was at a safe distance, he produced the Sonic Screwdriver and pressed the button. He soon found himself running to avoid being singed by a backdraft. He was always rubbish at the whole ‘Safe-distance thing.’ He really should have asked Ace when he had the chance.
Couldn't resist mentioning Ace, who being my first companion is still one of my favourites.
“Alright?” He asked as he approached Donna and Martha.
“Fine. And you?” Martha asked.
“Much better.” The Doctor said, grinning from ear to ear.
“The Daleks?” Donna asked.
“Dealt with, and good riddance.” The Doctor said, opening the TARDIS. Donna followed, but before Martha could enter, the doors closed.
“Doctor, let me in!” She yelled.
“I can’t get the door open!” Donna yelled, as she jiggled the handle frantically.
“Doctor can yo-” She then noticed that the TARDIS’ interior was glowing a sinister red. And the cloister bell was echoing in the air. The Doctor was frozen to the spot, a look of panic on his face.
Blatantly ripped off from Turn Left.
“Doctor, what’s wrong?” She asked.
“Something big.” Was all he could reply.
Before he could comment further, a white light engulfed the room.
Martha was horrified as she saw the Tardis vanish before her. Not its regular dematerialization, full blown vanish. She didn’t have long to ponder her own fate, as she too disappeared in a white light.
